Soccer. Monaco continues its recovery operation by taming Clermont
No more worries at the start of the season, Monaco is now launched. For the first time in 2021-2022, Niko Kovac’s men won a second time in a row in the league, against Clermont (3-1).
The game started badly, with a nice goal from Bayo (6th), co-top scorer in Ligue 1 with this 5th achievement, well placed on a cross from N’Simba.
But Monaco was able to react thereafter. The equalizer came from captain Wissam Ben Yedder, author of a superb sequence in the area: after a pass from Caio Henrique, the French striker dribbled Desmas and finished in the empty goal (26th).
Impermeable at the start of the year, the promoted Clermont-Ferrand no longer has the incredible success of August. The Auvergne may have shot more (12 to 6) and more on target than their opponents (4 to 3), the tide has not turned in their favor.
Monaco reverses the situation
On the contrary, on his second shot on target of the match, ASM took the advantage. On a new caviar from Caio Henrique, this time it was Kevin Volland who scored, alone at the penalty point (48th).
Clermont regained the upper hand in the debates but could not come back. Nubel was still working on a powerful strike from Dossou (67th).
Unlucky until the end, the Clermontois still bowed to a Monegasque counter. After several badly played shots, Boadu inherited the ball and crossed for Diop, whose madwoman at the near post surprised Desmas, guilty of a hand fault (90th + 1).
After the slap in Rennes on Wednesday (6-0), Clermont failed to bounce back and now ranks 15th. Monaco is back in the top 10 and seems to have finally launched its season.
