Clermont 1-3 Monaco
Goals: Bayo (7e) for Auvergnats // Ben Yedder (26e), Volland (48e) and Diop (90e+1) for ASM
Three shots on target, three goals and a victory far from incontestable: it is an understatement to say that Monaco was able to demonstrate effectiveness in Montpied.
Price at the entrance and durably jostled by a promoted Clermont uninhibited, the ASM nevertheless managed to win, this Sunday at the end of the afternoon (1-3). To get its head out of the water, the Principality’s club first relied on its two main offensive assets, namely Wissam Ben Yedder and Kevin Volland. The first was played by Arthur Desmas before equalizing by sliding the ball into the empty cage (1-1, 26e). The second took over at the height of six meters a perfect cross from Sofiane Diop (1-2, 48e). The latter, who came into play in place of a ghostly Alexander Golovin, concluded his good second period with a superb heel synonymous with a break goal. (1-3, 90e+1).
For the rest, the Monegasques spent a good part of the meeting suffering. Because opposite, the Auvergnats remained faithful to their playing principles and quickly took the lead, thanks to the essential Mohamed Bayo (1-0, 7e). But their lack of precision in the last gesture, their defensive shortcomings and, also, a questionable arbitration decision – Djibril Sidibé still seems to have unbalanced Jason Berthomier in the box (14e) – weighed heavily in the balance. To the delight of Monaco, back in the first part of the table after a perfect week.
On arrival, that’s a point taken and ten goals conceded in one week for the CF63, which slips slowly in the standings (15e). It’s hard, casually, learning Ligue 1.
