Diário Digital Castelo Branco – Taa de Portugal: Mafra wins at Sert and qualifies for the third round
The visiting team entered the ‘mandar’ of the game, facing a more expectant Sertanense and peeking at the counterattack, and created some scoring opportunities in the first 15 minutes of the match, without, however, how to achieve it.
After just two minutes, Andrés took advantage of an incursion on the right side of his attack to center late to the heart of the area where Lucas appeared, in front position, shooting over the goal. Two minutes later, it was striker Stevy who appeared to respond in the center of the area to a cross on the right, but the home goalkeeper came forward and grabbed the ball.
Without materializing their initial superiority, Mafra saw Sertanense’s team, today with Frederico Rodrigues on the bench due to the suspension of coach Natan Costa, start to grow in the game and create some opportunities next to Renan’s goal.
Jamerson and Muacir had two chances to open the scoring, but Mafra’s defense pushed the ball to a corner, in the 12th and 16th minute, with the home forwards having a succession of shots inside the area, after 18 minutes, with the ball hitting the defensive wall.
From here on, the tone was of balance, with Sertanense’s team, which is militating in the Portuguese Championship, creating a great danger move right on top of the final whistle of the first half. Nicolas Meek, however, missed the header from a privileged position in the heart of the area.
With a void in the scoreboard, the second half started again with Mafra wanting to rule the game, having created a sober opportunity at 57, but with advanced Stevy’s shot going slightly off the post.
Sertanense returned to balance the challenge and began to approach Renan’s goal, building several opportunities, but without realizing it.
The balance was maintained until the 83rd minute, when Mafra scored the winning goal. In a cross from the right, Sertanense’s defense tried to ward off the danger, but the ball was left to the entrance of the area, where Andrés came with a strong and low shot, stamping the qualification for the third round of the Portuguese Cup.
