Buses from the subsidized region will start running between Prague and Liberec, serving mainly the city along the route
Long-distance buses from other parts of the Liberec Region to Prague are also waiting for changes.
Trains running between Prague and Liberec for over two and a half hours will gain new competition in the form of stop buses from December. The Liberec and Central Bohemian regions have agreed on their operation. Due to their travel time, buses will find it difficult to compete with the direct connection between the two cities, but the best is to connect the settlements along the route and will now also offer a connection at night.
The intention announced this year has already taken concrete form. The coordinator of public transport in the Liberec Region, Korid LK, has published draft timetables, which will come into force on 12 December. The interconnection of the Prague Integrated Transport (PID) and IDOL tariffs can also be a fundamental change. The main goal is to improve transport services.
The journey time between Prague and Liberec on the new line 345 is planned due to the large number of stops at 110 minutes to Černý Most, direct express buses run 65 minutes. Trains currently run from Liberec to Prague with a transfer in Turnov in 2 hours and 29 minutes to the main railway station in the center.
Connection even overnight
So far, Prague and Liberec are directly connected only by the commercial bus lines RegioJet and FlixBus. The train does not run directly, it is necessary to change in Turnov. Liberec has long been beyond any interest of the Ministry of Transport in improving the railway connection, nor does it order direct trains.
New route 345 it also offered connections at very marginal times: from Liberec to Prague the first connection is to take place at 3:20 and visited 5:15 to Černý Most. So far, the first buses arrive from Liberec to Prague at 6:35. The new line could, for example, make it easier to travel through Prague to other destinations. Similarly, in the direction from Prague, there will be a new bus connection after midnight with departure at 0:25 from the Black Bridge. The line will be operated by ČSAD Liberec and Arriva Central Bohemia.
“The aim is not to compete with the express connections of commercial carriers, not even in terms of price. But in cooperation with the Central Bohemian Region, we want to effectively connect the lines from Liberec to Mladá Boleslav and from Mnichovo Hradiště to Prague,“Preceded by Otto Pospíšil, CEO of KORID LK.
Jointly prepared interregional lines will be involved in both integrated transport systems, ie IDOL in the Liberec Region and PID in the Central Bohemian Region and Prague. “Passengers will thus be able to combine the travel documents of both IDS, and thus take advantage of time or network tickets,“Says Jan Sviták, the statutory deputy governor in charge of managing the transport department.
The connection from other parts of the Liberec Region to the Central Bohemian Region and further to Prague will also undergo the transformation. For example, lines from Českolipsko, Jablonec nad Nisou or Turnov will run to Prague for an hour. Selected connections will then continue from Turnov towards Tanvald or Semily and further into the mountains (to Harrachov or to Mísečky). From Jablonec, part of the connections will continue in the direction of Harrachov and Rokytnice nad Jizerou. Complete timetable suggestions are here.
