AS Monaco continues its very good series in Clermont
Traveling to Clermont, this Sunday on the occasion of the 8th day of Ligue 1, AS Monaco went on to a 4th consecutive game without defeat, winning 3-1, thanks to goals from their duo “Yedderland” and Sofiane Diop.
The four in a row! After Sturm Graz (1-0), Nice (2-2) and Saint-Etienne (3-1), AS Monaco continues a fourth consecutive game without defeat, going to win in Clermont (3-1) this Sunday on the occasion of the 8e Ligue 1 day.
For this first meeting in the elite between the two clubs, Niko Kovac decides to line up a 4-2-3-1 with a renewed hinge compared to the match against Saint-Etienne, since Guillermo Maripán and Strahinja Pavlovic are tenured, as the duo “Yedderland” from the start in front, supported by Aleksandr Golovin and Gelson Martins in the corridors.
“Captain Wissam” answers Bayo
Against an offensive team and annoyed by its last failed match in Rennes (0-6), the Monegasques started the game badly by conceding the opening scoring of Mohamed Bayo, top scorer in Ligue 2 last season, on a resumption in the surface after a cross from the left (7e). Fortunately, after suffering the ardor of Clermont, they reacted quickly.
On a sublime action, it is Wissam Ben Yedder who confirms his excellent form and puts the two teams tied (25th). Served in the area by a marvel of deviation from Caio Henrique, the asemist captain dribbles Arthur Desmas and concludes in the empty goal. Wires 4e goal of the season in L1 (6 in all competitions), after those registered in the last two games in Nice (2-2) and against Saint-Etienne (doubled, 3-1).

Kevin Volland takes the break, Sofiane Diop treats
Upon returning from the locker room, Niko Kovac’s men put their foot on the accelerator and immediately found the fault. On an action initiated by Sofiane Diop, entered at the break, Caio Henrique managed his second assist of the match (the third of the season in L1) with a low cross resumed victoriously in the 6 meters by Kevin Volland, already a scorer Wednesday against ASSE.

This second goal, liberating, gives confidence to the Red and Whites, who manage rather quietly the second period and are saved by Alexander Nübel when Jodel Dossou arms a good shot (68e). Better still, the icing is placed on the cake by Sofiane Diop, author of the third but on a superb heel behind the supporting leg after a good serve from Myron Boadu (90e+1).
The rise in the rankings
Thanks to this success in the field of the promoted, Monaco goes back to the 8e place in the standings, just two points from the podium. In Ligue 1, we will have to continue this very good series next Sunday at the Stade Louis-II, against Bordeaux (3 p.m.). In the meantime, it will be the return of the Europa League on Thursday (6:45 p.m.) with a trip to Real Sociedad.
