Zénith de Toulouse: what solutions to the traffic puzzle?
With the reopening of the Zénith de Toulouse on Wednesday evening, traffic and parking problems are back in the spotlight. A meeting will be held in October to try to find solutions.
The spectators who attended the concert of the film scores of Hans Zimmer last Wednesday to remember it for a long time. For the magnificent reopening concert of the Zénith, of course, but also for the sidelines. Come to the places falling under the obstacle course testified some Toulouse.
“Once we took the Purpan exit on the ring road, we waited 30 minutes to do 300 meters. There is no space in this new district and the merry-go-rounds of the Saint-Michel festival which is in the Zénith car park made it impossible to park. Yet they weren’t walking and there was no one there. We therefore parked in the first car park we found, a paid car park of course. After the concert, to shine, we were blocked for 30 minutes while everyone was paying, ”says Lucas, a 26-year-old young man from Toulouse. “The entrance to the car park was closed on one side and 1,300 parking spaces were taken in because of the Toulouse funfair. We are therefore resigned to park in the grass in an unauthorized place at 7:50 p.m., making the remaining 500 meters on foot, also says Olivier, another spectator. Arrived in front of the Zénith, several hundred people were queuing to have their health pass and their ticket validated, and to be searched. The security company personnel were completely overwhelmed, which further delayed us. “
These difficulties, Gaëtan Brochard, director of the performance hall, is well aware. “Parking is a recurring and long-standing problem that tends to increase,” says the manager. With the opening of the Hall of the Cartoucherie in two years, this is an additional fear. “Although the management of the car parks is not his responsibility, the director explains that a meeting with Toulouse Métropole and the municipality will be held in October” to try to find solutions for the good of residents and spectators ” .
The Cartoucherie car park open provisionally
In addition, during the next concert which will take place on Wednesday, the old parking lot of the Cartoucherie should be open, which was not the case the previous week.
To avoid traffic jams on concert evenings, Gaëtan Brochard also recommends reaching the Zénith by two-wheelers or public transport. For people forced to take the car, he recommends parking near a tram stop before continuing the tram journey.
This is also the advice given by the town hall of Toulouse (read below). The municipality assures to be aware of the traffic difficulties, and encountered in question the funfair, and the lack of places in this district “in full development”. As a result, “the feast of St. Michael will no longer be held at the zenith”, indicates the town hall. “However, in view of the economic consequences due to the health crisis on industrial fairgrounds, the municipality has accepted that it be held one last time in the parking lot of the zenith. As a reminder, the town hall has just set up a working group with them for the organization of their future events. “
