Today, at noon, the participants of the festival of Romani culture Khamoro or the Sun passed through the center of Prague. This is the twenty-third year of one of the largest festivals of Romani culture in the world, which, like last year, is divided into spring and autumn due to coronavirus measures. A concert of traditional Romani music will take place in La Fabrice tonight.
The parade had hundreds of participants
Today’s parade was attended by hundreds of Roma from several European countries, in addition to domestic ones, representatives of Slovakia, Germany, Spain, Ukraine and Hungary also came. The parade offered several simultaneous performances of dancers and bands that played traditional Romani music right in the center of Prague.
Seven bands from seven countries
Ensembles from several countries will perform at the evening concert. An unconventional combination of Spanish and Indian music includes AndaluzIndia. Hungarian Kale Lulugyi will bring Romani songs from generation to generation, Boban Markovic will play the Balkan brass band, and there will be no shortage of Russian songs and dances performed by the Karmen Gipsy Group.
On Sunday, the festival continues with a gala concert in Roxy. Viewers will see seven bands from seven different countries, which include seven different styles of Romani music. The festival in Prague has been organized by Slovo 21 since 1999. The whole program can be seen here.
