The use of football terminology is allowed because it was introduced in the relevant discussion by the SYRIZA executives themselves. St. In fact, Kouloglou is not just an MEP. When a journalist with decades of experience elegantly finds out for his leader that there was a “draw” with the Prime Minister of Thessaloniki, one easily understands that in fact he blames defeat from the very first minutes of the “confrontation”. It is absolutely characteristic that the match immediately turned into an internal party and not at all friendly. In the midst of comradely stabbings, the tackles, the tripods, the hard markings, the kicks to the cane started and finally all together they have once again gone offside in the eyes of the Greek people.
Mr. Tsipras went to Thessaloniki boasting that he would finally succeed in defeating Kyriakos Mitsotakis, making the “TIF” a “new beginning” for his return to power.
The lessons have not yet become lessons for the leader of SYRIZA. If he had studied his ideological mentors a little better, he would have at least established that “history is repeated the first time as a tragedy and the second as a farce.” Indeed, that famous “Thessaloniki program” with which he started his journey to the Maximos Palace in 2014 proved to be a tragedy. It was accompanied by promises and announcements that were to deflate very quickly as soon as the governments began to recognize the Greek word “kolotoumba”. The truth, of course, is that Mr. Tsipras, with the art of the demagogue and the populist that he possessed perfectly, was able to seduce the tired electoral crowds at that time and make them believe the hares for a moment with the pebbles that he threw at them. That is why for a long time that “Thessaloniki program”, although dismantled like a bad sweater, remained in the center of interest and discussions.
But the current farce is literally unprecedented. The fireworks that were exposed by the TIF, the leader of the opposition extinguished before they managed to leave Vellideio. Under other circumstances he would be faced with many contradictions and even more questions that would have to be answered. He would need to explain, for example, why most of what he announced did not apply when he had the opportunity during his few years in office. What would be even more painful for him would be to make comparisons with his past and his bigotry that went to the age of years when he returned to a time when the world has changed at a dizzying pace and the country has entered a whole new era.
In the end, Mr. Tsipras did not have to do any of this because, quite simply, no one cared. Not even his own party. “It passed and did not touch,” as the saying goes. And this is probably the greatest punishment, the harshest punishment, that the social body can reserve for a party leader who is at the nadir of his credibility and at the zenith of political despair.
Mr. Tsipras himself and his staff had set the bar of this year’s TIF very high, seeking or rather voluntarily blinding that the turning point of the change of systems and balances will occur. The developments of the day, however, proved the opposite. The government continues its course and work with stability and clear sovereignty and political hegemony, while the opposition sinks even deeper into introversion and stagnation. Even the way in which Mr. Tsipras tried to address the issue of the elections without asking for it, caused more grief and confirmed the multiple strategic and political impasses of the current opposition.
In fact, everything shows that the crisis in which SYRIZA has entered is deep and lasting. It is also characteristic that the polls are not needed – what else is being done that disputes Koumoundourou – to show the dimensions of the problem. The party executives admit it with their attitude and movements, with the self-preservation instincts they show. If they believed that SYRIZA is on a path of recovery and return to power, not all these centrifugal tendencies that they trust and the seeds of Mr. Tsipras’ own challenge will develop. One could even say that the programmatic and political inadequacy that was mentioned in relief on the occasion of the TIF opened the intra-party bag of Aeolus that is difficult to close anymore.
It is also striking that this internal crisis is characterized by an unprecedented cruelty with neo-Stalinist traits, judging by the style and methods by which those who are considered “internal enemies” are treated. On this occasion, it appears – with their house – how those who pretend to disturb classes mean democracy and have completed for the way the country has been governed for the last two years by ND.
In conclusion, it starts for Thessaloniki, Mr. Tsipras thought he was going for a championship again. Returning not only remains a tail, but also fights to keep the position of coach in his team…
