McDonald’s presents “Trash Patrols”, regional platoons cleaning up selected sites Company News Brněnská Drbna
McDonald’s, which launched the Our Because project this year, whose main goal is to communicate sustainable activities, has decided to become directly involved in events in the region. Therefore, it motivates and actively supports its franchise partners and restaurant employees to clean selected locations and collects tips from its customers on neglected and after-cleaning places calling. Will you get involved? Each of our regions always has its specific charm and beauty, which must be pampered.
The cleaning crews, the so-called Trash Patrols, are groups of McDonald’s restaurant staff and volunteers who clean up selected places in their spare time. This summer alone, 450 of them took part and so far they have collected more than 145 bags full of rubbish, including old tires, at 23 locations throughout the Czech Republic. Because the month of September is generally dedicated to cleaning public spaces, Trash Patrols aims to operate year-round.
The cleaning crews went into battle
Well-known pictures of cups in nature or paper lunch bags thrown on the road is something that the restaurant network has been struggling with for years. McDonald’s has been initiating cleaning around the restaurant for years, but now they decide to expand their attention to the immediate area. “We care about where we live, what our surroundings look like and what we leave here for future generations. Therefore, we clean not only within our restaurants, but also popular places in the area. It makes sense, and if at least one of the individuals who throw away the waste with disinterest and headlessness is interested or even changed, we will be happy, “says Eva Huyen Haas, who is behind her, who, together with her employees, cleaned the Windsor ruins in the Ústí nad Labem region. And this is exactly at the instigation of customers who alert the company to the problem on social networks.
We’ll fix it
Not only the surroundings of restaurants, the city district and parks were cleaned, but also more popular trails, classes and sightseeing and excursion places such as the Bolevecký pond and Olšina u Lipna pond, the mentioned Windsor ruins in Litoměřice, Fajtův kopec in Velké Meziříčí or the park near Špilberk castle. “We appreciate all the volunteers who do the cleaning with us. Whether as part of Trash Patrols or for yourself. It was very inspiring to watch how unknown people and passers-by, who were only here for a walk, joined us during the cleaning in Divoký Šárka. They got a bag and they could do something for nature right away. I enjoy this. When we can motivate with others, “ complements Jitka Pajurková, PR and communications director of McDonald’s CR and SK, which supplies the restaurant and its team with cleaning aids.
And why are you doing this?
Sustainability is a long-standing issue for McDonald’s. That is why this year came up with the Our Because campaigns, in which, not only does it present its goals and concrete sustainable steps, but it also collects the reasons for Czechs why they care about our landscape and the planet Earth. For McDonald’s, everyone is for this reason and it doesn’t matter if they are restaurant customers or the general public. And know that McDonald’s has something to say, because it has been promoting a gentle approach to nature for decades. That is why it serves its food in recycled and certified paper packaging, on behalf of its customers and suppliers of three wastes, and sends it for further processing, plastic utensils such as cups, straws and cutlery replaced with paper and wood.
