CINENOVA. International university film festival is back in Lisbon

O CINENOVA, the only international university film festival in Portugal, returns to Avenida de Berna. AN Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, NOVA University of Lisbon (NOVA FCSH) will be the stage for the second edition of the festival, where it will be exhibited 31 short films by directors from 19 countries. The opening session will be held, as last year, at Portuguese Cinematheque and the discussion panels on contemporary cinema will be present. This year, it joins the programming of an expanded cinema exhibition at captain’s house.

AN schedule of the new edition of the festival starts with the opening ceremony at Cinemateca Portuguesa, n. day 28, at 7 pm, with the screening of the films The Sea Rolls in the Sand, in Catherine post, and Ordinary Time, in Gonçalo Magalhães. Between the September 29th and October 1st, there will be two transformations a day, between 6 pm and 9 pm, at NOVA FCSH, where not only Portuguese short films will be shown, but also from all corners of the globe – Brazil, Singapore, Belgium, Argentina, Latvia and Palestine are some of the represented countries.

no day September 30th, at 11am, the focus will be on the discussion board “Echoes of a Pandemic: Confinement Films and their Processes”, with the participation of the filmmakers Francisca Alarcão and João Garcia Neto, also held at NOVA FCSH. Both classes and panel entries are free.

One of the novelties this year is the exhibition Between the Real and the Image, taking place in parallel with the festival. The exhibition, which features works by nine artists, marks the debut of the section “CINENOVA Expanded”. From day September 24th to October 3rd, you can visit it at the Captain’s House, n. Beato’s Creative Hub.

CINENOVA is promoted by NOVA FCSH and organized by university students and professors, whose objective is “streamline film production in a university context and stimulate debate around the relationship that may exist between Cinema, Knowledge and Communication. The year edition takes place between the 28th of September and the 1st of October.
