Four young Pongau chefs created a video together to advertise their profession. YOU want to point out the beautiful sides of the cooking profession and hope to inspire other young people as well. There is a considerable shortage of staff in the catering industry – more than 500 chefs are wanted across the country.

The shortage of chefs in gastronomy goes so far that restaurants are restricted or even temporarily closed due to operations. The four young chefs – they call themselves “Chefs of Pongau” – want to counter this and now use their video to mention the beautiful sides of the cooking profession.

First cooking experience at the age of ten

Leonhard Schaidreiter is a cook for the Obauers in Werfen. But he also helps his frequent mother in a snack station in Hüttau – this is where he gained his first cooking experience: “I was already cooking at home when I was ten and I really liked it. “Have time off when others are working”

Young chef Jakob Quehenberger, who works in his parents’ business in an inn in Radstadt, knows the statements that chefs are desperately looking for nationwide: “The main argument is usually that you have to work on Saturday and Sunday when others are all free. I see it that way that we have time off when the others are working. “

Demanding everyday life

All four admit one thing – in the cooking profession you have to learn to deal with stress: “It can go from doing nothing to completely“ swimming ”within five minutes. It can be very demanding mentally and you need a certain amount of time to get your job right, ”says Christoff Mayer, who cooks in Bad Hofgastein.
