Volvo responds to frozen doors: “We are aware of the problem”

Volvo Cars is well aware of the problem – but it is unclear what to do about it

Earlier this week published vi en article after a number of readers have heard of it and told that they have problems with the back doors freezing when the mercury shows minus degrees.

At that time, most V90 owners reported problems, but since that article, more owners have heard from them. It can be stated that the fault is not unique to the V90 but that you can use all Volvo models.

An XC90 owner emailed us and told about how the back doors froze during the mountain trip almost two weeks ago in temperatures of between 10 and 15 degrees below zero.

Now that the car was allowed to “thaw” in 5 degrees below zero, one door has come loose, but the other is also quick-frozen. He should have had new locks installed on Monday, but the workshop time has been postponed because it is “end of lock” at the moment.

When we ask Volvo says the manufacturer that you are aware of the problem.

– We can not comment on individual cases, but we can say that we can use problems with frozen back doors and that there is a package of measures in the workshops’ information systems. It would not need an error code, says a press spokesperson from Volvo.

We continue to be at Volvo about what is included in the package of measures.

Volvo – Made by Sweden. In the last decade, Volvo has put a tremendous amount of pressure on its Swedishness, pointing out how their cars (some at least) are made in Sweden, by Sweden – but, did you perhaps forget FOR Sweden?

Yes, of course it has been cold lately. I think we can all agree on that. But honestly, it’s too bad that the doors freeze at ten degrees below zero. It is under all criticism. Not only is it very impractical, it can also be very dangerous. Suppose you are in a situation where you would need to get out of the car. Then it is not very fun to have to climb out through the front doors or the tailgate.

What’s just as bad is that Volvo has known about this problem for several years, without obviously taking it seriously.

– We have seen indications that some customers have certain problems with the door locks, especially on early models of the new XC90. The cars are constantly updated and improvements have been made since then, Volvo Cars’ then press manager Annica Bjerstaf told Expressen in March 2018. It is three years ago and it is thought that these “improvements” should begin to yield results.

Make a recall and fix the problem only.
