Toulouse: to resolve the pedestrian / cyclist conflict, an association asks the town hall for a major communication campaign
The Toulouse association for the defense of pedestrians and cyclists, “Two feet two wheels”, made public an exchange of letters with the mayor of Toulouse. The latter asks the association to “make its members aware” of a safety problem between pedestrians and bicycles, on the Saint-Michel bridge. The association replies that it would gladly participate in a large-scale communication operation, aimed at all road users.
The cohabitation between pedestrians and cyclists, even between pedestrians and users of new modes of travel (scooters, gyroroues) is difficult in Toulouse, in particular in certain sectors. The pedestrianized rue d’Alsace-Lorraine is regularly the subject of complaints from pedestrians to the Capitol. The Saint-Michel bridge, where an important place is left for each use (pedestrians, cyclists), is not necessarily part of it.
“This lady failed to be run over twice” on the Saint-Michel bridge
The mayor of Toulouse, Jean-Luc Moudenc, however wrote a letter to the association “Deux Pieds Deux Roues”, in which he relates complaints sent by pedestrians, directly to his office. Thus, a pedestrian deplores “the use of the right sidewalk by cyclists”, normally “dedicated to pedestrians” on the Saint-Michel bridge. “Such mayors represent a danger, in particular for Ms. XX, who has failed to be run over on two occasions”, explains the mayor in his letter.
“sidewalk cyclists”: the Mayor has written to us three times since the start of the school year. He relayed letters from injured pedestrians (picture 1).

The president of the association “Two feet two wheels”, Boris Kozlow, answers the mayor that he shares a “common objective” with the services of the town hall and the metropolis, which is to “pacify the public domain about mobility “, and that it has already raised awareness among its members. But its 2155 cyclist and pedestrian members represent a “drop in the water” in an agglomeration of one million inhabitants.

Boris Kozlow therefore suggests that Toulouse Métropole regularly launch communication operations, such as road safety: posters, flyers, videos, social networks … “All categories of users are concerned, if we want to pacify the public space: motorists, motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians, etc. “. He proposed a coordination meeting on the subject. It remains to be seen whether this collaboration with the metropolis will take place. The ball seems to be in the court of the mayor and president of the Metropolis.
Then on the example of Pont St Michel:
