Is this good or bad news?
In a press release dated September 23, 2021, the Haute Garonne prefecture and Regional Health Agency (ARS) Occitanie announced the gradual closure of certain vaccination centers by December 31, going from 10 centers currently to 8 in October and then to 6 in November. Among them, the Hall 7 of the Toulouse vaccinodrome. Open on Saturday June 5, it should even close at the end of October.
70.94% of first-time vaccines in Haute-Garonne
But why such a decision when there are still a few weeks, these XXL centers were the spearheads of the vaccination campaign? This announcement comes in a general context of the shortening of the vaccination.
Vaccinodromes are now struggling to fill appointments. According to Covid Tracking, as of September 15, 965,720 people had received at least one dose of vaccine in the department. This represents 70.94% of inhabitants de la Haute-Garonne, under 12 years old included.
Result ? The authorities have decided to adapt their vaccination strategy with in particular “the deployment of mobile vaccination teams intended for occasional operations”, as well as “the reduction in capacity and / or gradual closure of certain vaccination centers”.
Give priority to the proximity offer
The objective is clear: both Toulouse and Haut-Garonnais who want to be vaccinated will have to fall back on a local offer, in other words, go to the attending physician, pharmacist or any other health professional authorized to perform this medical procedure.
This strategy makes it possible to offer a vaccination offer, by health territory, which is sufficiently extensive and flexible. The objective is to meet the challenges of vaccination booster shots for the elderly, people in fragile situations and / or with co-morbidities, as well as for primary vaccination for people wishing to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
The launch of the campaign for the 3e dose of vaccin, aimed at the most vulnerable, can it be a game-changer? Started since Monday, September 13, it has not been able to reverse the trend. To realize this, just go to the platform KelDoc. (Very) many appointments are available.
“We did our job! “
Still active, the room 8 of the Toulouse vaccinodrome performs between 500 and 1,000 injections per day, compared to an average of 8,000 in August. On the weekend of July 17 and 18, 2021, the bar of 21,000 injections had even been crossed! A record in France at the time.
In Toulouse, we have reached a glass ceiling, it is obvious. All those who must, have been able or better to be vaccinated, are vaccinated. Since the opening of hall 8 then hall 7, here at the vaccinodrome, we have carried out more than 650,000 injections. We did our job! Today, it can be said, these centers are a success. Without them, the bar of 50 million first-time vaccinated in France would not have been crossed.
For the head of Samu 31, this announced closure of Hall 7 is good news. ” It means that the health situation is improving. It is a return to normality which is announced and it is not worse. For the remainder of the vaccination campaign, the attending physicians will be able to resume their role of vaccinators, ”concludes the person concerned.
