The Magnettes are chasing life in a new single.
Pajala’s finest, The Magnettes, best of the front duo Rebecka Digervall and True Call and the producer Tomas Bäcklund Thuneström is back with the new single “American”, a romanticized, bombastic escapist drama that echoes Springsteen and Ronettes. the single is released June 12 on all major platforms.
“Since we were kids, we have lived through television. Growing up in a small community like Pajala, American movies, sit-coms and reality series were a way out. It showed us what true love is and what dream life looks like and we have been junkies and swallowed everything without chewing. Teenage drama with extra sugar, extra salt, stories and ideals that reality could not live up to. Men “American” is not really about America. It’s about chasing intoxication, just gassing and abandoning everything that is comfortable to live for real. ”
The sound image is an updated Wall-of-Sound. Layer upon layer of dreamy guitars, aggressive drums and vintage strings, like a soundtrack to a road movie that no one has yet invented.
The band was formed in Pajala and created their own mix of electronic pop and riot grrrl-punk. In 2015, they played at the SXSW festival in Austin and were signed by the record company Digsin. Debuts “Ugly youth” came in 2017, and was named one of the best albums of 2017 by PopCrush.
The singles “Young wild” premiered in the TV4 series “Finest Family” and the song became the tenth most played Swedish song on P3 that year. Their song “Sad Girls Club” can be heard in many Netflix series “Elite”. A feature film documentary made by Martin Åhlin as a visa, I can also make the video “American”. The Magnettes have also been praised by, among others Earmilk, Perez Hilton, ELLE Sweden and Russian Cosmopolitan.
