This is what Telenor announces on Friday, reports the news agency Reuters.
As is well known, the USA has insisted on its allies not to use technology from Huawei in the 5g expansion, due to security reasons. The United States suspects that their equipment could use the Chinese state to spy, something that Huawei can consistently allow.
But Norwegian security authorities are also said to have warned Huawei, higher Reuters.
Telenor’s CEO Sigve Brekke says in a statement that the company can make a “comprehensive” security evaluation and take into account factors such as technical quality, innovation and modernization of the network.
“Based on the comprehensive evaluation, we have decided to introduce a new partner for this important technology shift in Norway,” he added.
A spokesperson for Ericsson states that the company is “very proud” to be chosen as a partner by Telenor but refused to comment further.
The use of network components from Huawei in Norway will be phased out in four to five years, according to Reuters.
As Computer Sweden previously wrote, Telia in Norway has also announced that they abandons Huawei to invest in Ericsson.
However, Telia in Sweden then discovered that no similar decisions had been made when it comes to the Swedish operations. “That Norway makes this type of decision does not automatically mean that it will be the case in Sweden as well,” the company’s press spokesperson said in October.
