San Marino. World heart day
San Marino also participates in the initiatives on the occasion of World Heart Day.
“Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest represents one of the most serious public health problems. Statistics in hand, cardiac arrest has an incidence of one case per thousand inhabitants and prompt intervention is essential for patient resuscitation.
“The majority of cardiac arrests (85%) is in fact caused as much by ventricular fibrillation (VF), for which it is necessary to intervene promptly, after 10 minutes, the successful attempts of resuscitation maneuvers with the automatic defibrillator drop low .
Therefore, the main factors for survival, following an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, are immediate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) by any people present and the speed with which defibrillation is performed.
From a legislative point of view, San Marino is at the forefront: law 197/2020 liberalized the use of the defibrillator. However, the training of rescuers remains fundamental who, in addition to calling the 118 operators, should be able to perform cardiac massage in the very first moments of cardiac arrest.
In conjunction with the World Heart Day 2021, the UOC of Cardiology, in collaboration with the UOC First Aid, the San Marino Society of Cardiology, the Cuore-Vita Association and Cemec, thanks also to the sponsorship of the SUMS and the Patronage of the Secretariats of the State for Health and Work, organizes a week dedicated to the training of rescuers.
The courses will be held in the large spaces of the vaccines area on the ground floor of the State Hospital (former nursing home area). In the morning, the training will be dedicated to the retraining of rescuers who have already undergone a cardiopulmonary resuscitation course. In the afternoon, however, there will be training dedicated to new rescuers.
To date there are about two hundred enrolled, especially young people, who attend the last year of high school, but also health professionals, teachers, personnel of the Police, Civil Protection and citizens. Still in the context of the school, a whole day will be dedicated to the training of Kindergarten and Elementary School teachers.
On the occasion of World Heart Day, the Third Tower “Montale” will also be illuminated in red, while among the initiatives planned as part of the “Repubblica Cardioprotetta” project, the San Marino APP connected to the semi-automatic defibrillators present in San Marino. The App – in line with the one already operational in Emilia Romagna – will allow the activation of the emergency call connected to the San Marino 118 in the event of cardiac arrest, the geolocation of the defibrillators present in the area and the early activation of rescuers “.
