“Hair loss is one of the most devastating side effects for patients who undergo chemotherapy. The cooling system of the scalp induced with special machinery, manages to mitigate the alopecia generated by chemotherapy and is a proven method used effectively on thousands of patients. Now even the ISS can now count on this system thanks to state-of-the-art clinical equipment “.
This was announced in a press release. “The presentation of the new scalp cooling system – which cancer patients suffering from breast and gynecological cancers will be able to use – took place today to the Eminent Captains Regent Gian Carlo Venturini and Marco Nicolini, accompanied by the Secretary of State for Health Roberto Ciavatta and the Executive Committee of the Institute for Social Security, in the presence of the representatives of the San Marino Oncological Association and the ISS staff of the services concerned.
The arrival of the new machinery at the State Hospital is possible thanks to the donation conducted by the AOS in memory of Dr. Maria Rosaria Bigotto, former Medical Director of the State Hospital and for a long time physician and director of the Analysis Laboratory.
The DigniCap Delta scalp cooling system (the first approved by the American FDA) supplied to the Institute for Social Security is used in subjects who are undergoing a course of adjuvant chemotherapy (post surgery). Not all patients, in fact, are compatible with this machine. American clinical studies show that less than 3% of people have discontinued DigniCap Delta anti-alopecia therapy.
At the moment, the instrumentation can only be used on certain types of tumors, such as those affecting women, while it is contraindicated for other types of neoplasia. The device donated to the ISS is a state-of-the-art instrument, it works through a thermolectric cooling system that allows precise temperature control and guarantees high reliability “.
