Salzburg Mobility Award 2021 for Palfinger
The Salzburg company’s leasing bike campaign was awarded this year’s VCÖ mobility award.
For 30 years now, the Verkehrsclub Österreich (VCÖ) has been awarding awards as the best examples of climate-friendly and sustainable mobility. In Salzburg, the award is being presented for the 16th time by the VCÖ in cooperation with the State of Salzburg and the ÖBB.
Dream bike for employees
This year the mobility award in Salzburg goes to the Palfinger company for their “PALfit Bike” campaign. A dream bike employee leased through the employer is available at all times, be it for the way to work, for business purposes or for leisure. The campaign is one of the three building blocks of the company’s internal mobility concept alongside the existing job tickets and car sharing. Since the start of the campaign in May, around 200 participants at the company locations in Bergheim, Elsbethen, Köstendorf, Lengau and Vienna have been using the environmentally friendly and healthy alternative to the car.
Exemplary incentive
“Every third employee in Salzburg lives less than five kilometers from their workplace, six out of ten less than ten kilometers – with a good cycling infrastructure an ideal cycling distance,” says VCÖ expert Michael Schwendinger. “Those who cycle to work are making an active contribution to climate protection, improving their own fitness and doing good for their health. With this, Palfinger is providing an exemplary incentive for more employees to cycle to work instead of the car.”
“The ‘PALfit Bike’ campaign is a win-win-win situation.” Michael Schwendinger, VCÖ
The car sharing project in Eugendorf also received an award, the award was accepted by the mobility officer and councilor Angela Lindner. For a new residential complex with 67 apartments, the municipality has stipulated three high-quality bicycle parking spaces per apartment, one of which is roofed directly in front of the front door and two bicycle parking spaces in the bicycle room. In a further step, the municipal regulations are to be changed in such a way that. Dying bicycles can be reached just as easily. When, when and when cars die. In the newly built settlement there was also a car sharing car from the start. This was so well received by the residents that a second car sharing car will soon be purchased.
Mobility behavior influenced by living environment
“Eight out of ten everyday journeys start or end at home. Where we live and what mobility options are available in residential complexes or in the residential area have a major impact on our mobility behavior,” said Michael Schwendinger from the VCÖ on the jury’s decision. “Car sharing also saves money and reduces the space used by car parking spaces, which frees up additional space.”
Another award for s.mobil
Another car sharing offer, also located in Flachgau, was also worth an award for the Verkehrsclub Österreich. The s.mobil project has existed since January, and 60 members in Seekirchen and Obertrum are already using it. A total of four cars are currently available, five more are to be added IF THE offer is expanded to other Flachgau communities. Under the direction of chairman David Knapp, a full-time traffic planner, Laufends.mobil acts as an umbrella organization and acts as a uniform operator, while the vehicles in the communities are organized independently. “There are many practical ideas and measures in the entire state of how we can make our mobility sustainable,” said Transport State Councilor Stefan Schnöll on the occasion of the awards. “I am pleased that four projects were brought to the curtain today that will help us to relieve Salzburg of traffic jams.”
Special price for a “public transport job ticket”
A special award went to the mobility management of the Salzburg state employees. As the first federal state, the public service job ticket is anchored in the service law of public employees; the public service job ticket has also been funded by the state administration as an alternative to the travel cost subsidy since July 2021.
