Salzburg Festival: Presidential job advertised | kurier.at
The board of trustees of the Salzburg Festival, which is made up of political figures, publishes the announcement of the position on September 25 – in the “Official Gazette” of the “Wiener Zeitung” as well as in other national and international media. The application deadline is November 1st. The text of the advertisement states that the future post holder must bring along “extensive knowledge of cultural life, a basic understanding of the artistic direction / directorship as well as the commercial agendas”.
Helga Rabl-Stadler’s contract, which has been extended several times and has been President of the Salzburg Festival for a quarter of a century, expires at the end of the year. The Salzburg native, born in 1948, asserts that she will certainly no longer apply. Who could follow her is supposedly completely open.
The appointment of a person with no connection to Salzburg seems unlikely. The tender text also states: “The ability to move safely on the international stage as well as in the regional stage of the Salzburg Festival is a prerequisite.” Most recently, EU Minister Karoline Edtstadler (ÖVP), born in Salzburg in 1981, was named. The outgoing ORF general director asserts that he is no longer interested.
