Defensive shipwreck
Sélestat made the hole in the first half (18-13, 30 ′) and Caen never seemed able to come back. But above all, they experienced a very significant amount of waste when shooting. The Sélestat goalkeepers stopped 12 shots against only 3 Caen side, the fault of a struggling defense. Alan Santos ends with a terrible 0/10 while Justin Portat does not exceed 10% saves (3/31).
Laurent Lagier-Pitre, with 6 goals, finished top scorer in the ranks of Caen. He advances Mathias Créteau. The Caen wingers had only a poor performance: none but in the game for Yannis Mancelle (3/4 penalties) and Emilien Deschamps, two for Alexian Trottet and three for Ryad Lakbi.
“We take a nice one”
Caen, last in the standings after these three initial defeats, will have to react on Saturday, October 2, 2021 against Nice. Here again, the task will not be easy against a good team in the championship, scorching 35-29 from Dijon. The calendar is not tender with the Normans …
The reaction of Roch Bedos, coach of Caen Handball: “The defeat is heavy because we do not meet the necessary ingredients. When we are at the bottom of the hole, everyone looks at each other. We have just taken a nice one that should give us a reaction. You can’t just do things halfway. We defend far too little. We have to change our mindset. “
