Defeats for KAC, Salzburg and Capitals

The 3rd round of the ICE Hockey League ended with failures for Austria’s champions KAC, Salzburg and the Vienna Capitals. Having traveled to the Czech Republic as championship leaders, the KAC went down on Friday against Znojmo 0: 6 (0: 2.0: 2.0: 2). Salzburg lost 5: 6 at home to Dornbirn (1: 2.1: 3.3: 1). The Black Wings Linz wrote a point for the first time, but they are beaten 1: 2 (0: 0.1: 0.0: 1; 0: 1) nV against Innsbruck worldwide. The Capitals lost to Fehervar 3: 4 (0: 2.1: 1.3: 0).

The KAC went away for the first time and promptly conceded their first defeat, with a debacle against the Znojmer Adler. The 0: 6 – after six wins in six competition games before – was according to the KAC archive the clearest bankruptcy in a league game since 335 games. Tomas Svoboda (5th / PP, 24th), Filip Ahl (12th), Anthony Luciani (27th / PP), Vladimir Oscadal (46th) and Adam Sedlak (53th / PP) scored for the Czechs, but they did missed the championship lead.

Fehervar clung to it, as the Hungarians won the third game in their third game against the still pointless Vienna Capitals. Nicolai Meyer (2nd, 33rd) with two power play hits and Brody Sutter (15th) initially got the goals for the Viennese, but they messed up their lead and took three hits in the final section. The Caps conceded three of the four goals conceded.

Fehervar is close on the heels of the Bratislava Capitals, who fought the Graz99ers down on Friday after extra time 6: 5 (2: 3.2: 1.1: 1; 0: 1). The Graz team – without Daniel Oberkofler and Kilian Rappold – managed to equalize four times through Dominik Grafenthin (7th, 14th, 26th / PP, 33rd), but in the end it was barely enough for victory.

Things are not going well for Salzburg either. In the second third Die Dornbirner shot out a 5: 1 lead, which proved to be insurmountable for the “bulls” despite the frequent finish. The Russian Pavlo Padakin (4th, 14th) scored a double for Vorarlberg in the first section.

The Black Wings were the game-defining team at home and there could be numerous opportunities. The first Linz goal of this ICE season only succeeded in the middle of the second third, Julian Pusnik (31st) successfully dug the puck into the net. Then the guests slowly woke up, seven minutes before the end of regular time Joel Messner met to equalize. In extra time, Zach Magwood used a power play to win the match for the Haie.

Villacher SV lost to the Pustertal Wolves on their own ice 2: 3 (1: 2.0: 1.1: 0). The duel between HCB Südtirol and Olimpjia Ljubljana, which the Slovenes won 6: 2 (1: 0.2: 1.3: 1), was a clear affair.
