Covid’s situation in Prague continues to deteriorate, for the sixth week in a row
The so-called incidence number, ie the number of newly infected in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, rose to 48. One week ago, it reached 45.
Prague has the highest incidence number of all regions of the Czech Republic. The value of the incidence number is similar in the Moravian-Silesian Region with 47 cases per week per 100,000 inhabitants.
The daily numbers of newly infected with coronavirus in Prague reached the highest level on Tuesday, September 21, since May 18, when 124 cases of covid-19 were confirmed. Less than a hundred new infections per day were known in the capital last week, except on weekends, only on Friday 17 September.
In schools in Prague, the first two weeks of the school year, ie from 1 to 12 September, were announced according to the Prague ones hygienists a total of 161 coronavirus infections. The majority of those infected were pupils and students. According to the latest data from hygienists, only one school in Prague was completely closed in the second week of September due to the occurrence of covid-19. In another 50 schools, however, one or more classes had to be closed.
The number of infected people in the second week of this school year, which is 131 cases, is higher than as a result of the previous school year. At that time, the number of people infected from mid-April, when pupils would gradually return to school after online teaching, was only in the order of tens per week until the end of June. Last September, however, the numbers were infected in higher schools. They achieved according to the data hygienists up to several hundred cases per week, yet at that time comprehensive testing of pupils had not yet been introduced as at the beginning of this school year.
During the entire period of the epidemic since the beginning of last March, when the first cases of the disease appeared in the Czech Republic, approximately 192,000 cases of covid-19 have already been detected in Prague. A total of 2772 people with covid-19 died in Prague. Fewer people have died in the last seven days than in the previous week. The ministry testifies to only one death in Prague last week, persisting in the previous week and recorded three deaths.
Since the end of last December, people in the Czech Republic have been vaccinated against covid-19. In Prague, a total of about 2.15 million doses of nurses were administered during the entire vaccination period. More than a million people have already been fully vaccinated in Prague.
