Bright Night, the researchers’ night lights up Siena: “Let’s go back to the streets to dialogue with the general public”
Over 60 events and a very large audience of onlookers who arrive inside the courtyard of the Rectorate of the University of Siena. The images that the European Night of Researchers brings with it are above all of hope, of having left the nightmare of the pandemic behind.
Francesco Frati, Rector of the Sienese University also admits this: “This is the tenth edition we are holding in Siena and it is a sort of return, after the forced renunciation of activities in attendance last year. In 2021 we made an effort to be able to put female researchers back in places where they can communicate with the general public ”, affirmed. Bright Night brings over 300 researchers and researchers back to the streets, squares and universities of Siena, Arezzo, Grosseto and San Giovanni Valdarno and the afternoon in the Rectorate is under the sign of sustainability, life sciences but also comics.
At 4 pm there was the delivery to the students of the water bottles donated by Acquedotto del Fiora, Legacoop Toscana and Sei Toscana. “” The territory welcomes the new university students, offering a sign of the way of being: sustainable and innovative ”, affirms the president of Adf Roberto Renai. Alessandro Fabbrini, president of Sei Toscana echoes him: “Using a bottle like this means doing less waste. I think this is the first rule when we talk about the environment ”.
In Siena Bright Night also moves to San Niccolò where “Destination Mars and Return” is held, a sort of journey into space to discover the effects that biomedical space research has on our everyday life: satellite navigation, wi -fi, energy, sustainability, safety and much more. Sport is not lacking either: at San Niccolò the Paralympic screen Matteo Betti presents Road To Tokyo ”, a social communication project from the Master in Business Communication. At the Mattioli presidium there will also be “A basket along a century”, to tell the story of basketball in the light of the European, Olympic and Paralympic successes of Italian athletes. We then return to the Rectorate where, from 7 pm to 9 pm, in the lecture hall, Darwin on the Beach is broadcast “, a cinematic transposition of the show curated by the students of the university theater laboratory Prometheus Unleashed, which invites us to reflect on the themes of evolution and ecology.
Tomorrow, however, the Phd Graduation Day for the new PhDs who have obtained the title in the last two years. The event will be held in the suggestive crypt of San Francesco. Speaking of the Crypt Frati makes his promise: “We will use it tomorrow, we will use it temporarily in this first semester of the academic year 2021/22 for teaching. The final destiny of the Crypt will be to return to being a study room for our students ”.
