At the main railway station, they opened an underpass in Žižkov. A new station was also established in Prague
The exit to Žižkov from the underpass is fully barrier-free, there is a staircase, a pair of escalators and an elevator. The subway is followed by a pedestrian route leading to Seifertova Street.
“Before, it looked really completely uncivilized here, people used the closest possible way through all the tracks here at the main station. Firstly, it was forbidden, and secondly, it was a very dangerous road, ”explained the Deputy Mayor of Prague 3, Pavel Dobeš.
“For the citizens of Prague 3, the subway means very comfortable, even barrier-free access to the main railway station or subsequently to the metro,” Dobeš added.
The underpass under Prague’s main railway station connects the city center with Žižkov and Vinohrady.

Jiří Svoboda, General Director of the Railway Administration, also emphasized the greater safety and connection of the surrounding city districts with the metro station. “It will significantly shorten the walking distance not only directly to the station, but also to the city center,” he added.
Construction work to extend the underpass began last May and included, among other things, the necessary relocation of tracks and modifications to the water supply and sewerage system. The architects also designed a rest area here, which will appear together with the landscaping at the exit of the underpass.
“We will finish the area of the subway until the arrival of winter. The works cost 219.55 million crowns, “added Svoboda.
The underpass is equipped with stairs, escalators and a barrier-free elevator.

New railway station in Zahradní město
On Friday, the Railway Administration also ceremoniously opened a new railway station in Prague-Zahradní město. The station is part of a newly built transfer terminal, which is to significantly improve public transport in this part of the metropolis.
The station is located on the line between the main railway station and Hostivaří, at the intersection with the extended Průběžná street.
It consists of two island and one external platform, accessed by stairs, elevators and escalators. These connect the entire terminal, which also includes tram and bus stops in the underpass. There is also a waiting room and check-in area available for passengers.
Trains can use a more capacitive four-track line here, train travel times will also be shortened thanks to the shortened route, which used to run to the now defunct station Praha-Strašnice stop, as well as line speeds of up to 120 km / h.
The new Prague-Zahradní město railway station was opened by the Railway Administration on Friday morning.

“In my opinion, people will start to reconsider what type of transport they should move around Prague. From Zahradní město, when the new timetable is fully operational, we will be on the timeline for ten minutes at the main railway station, which is absolutely unrivaled, “Svoboda told Novinky.
The Prague-Vršovice station, which was expanded with a new platform, also underwent a complete reconstruction as part of the construction of the so-called Hostivař corridor. Nine existing and bridge buildings and the construction of one new one were also reconstructed.
The new railway station is located on the line between Hostivaří and the main railway station.

“Almost everything has been reconstructed from the Garden City towards Prague’s main railway station. By this I mean Vršovice, but also the Eden station (opened last December, editor’s note), which was a huge benefit not only for the address as such, but also for the local stadium, “added Svoboda.
The total costs of the project Optimization of the line section Prague Hostivař – Prague n., II. part – Prague Hostivař – Prague n. climbed to 5.3 billion crowns. The project is co-financed by the European Union, national funding is provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
