During Monaco-ASSE (3-1), Wednesday evening in Ligue 1, ASM coach Niko Kovac was able to make six changes, implementing the new rule on concussions.
This is a first this season in Ligue 1. On Wednesday evening, during the victory of Monaco against Saint-Etienne at Louis-II (3-1), ASM coach Niko Kovac was able to change during the part … plus half of his team.
Indeed, out of the eleven Monegasque players at kick-off, only five finished the match: Alexander Nübel, Benoit Badiashile, Axel Disasi, Youssouf Fofana, and Sofiane Diop. The other six were replaced before the end of the game. And this thanks to a new point of settlement.
Krépin Diatta hit in the head
It has not escaped anyone’s notice since the start of the Covid period that the number of “classic” changes allowed has increased from three to five per game. But since mid-September and the fifth day of Ligue 1, a sixth replacement is now possible, in the specific case of a suspicion of concussion. What happened in the Principality.
Indeed, the Monegasque winger Krépin Diatta came out on concussion protocol after a head-to-head shock with Stéphane midfielder Yvan Neyou in the second half (66th). If the Greens player, struck for a moment, returned to the lawn, the Senegalese international of ASM left a few minutes later (71st), replaced by Aurélien Tchouaméni.
A change which was therefore not accounted for in the five traditional replacements. And Kovac, who had already released Sidibé, Matazo and Boadu, was able to continue at the end of the match by recalling Caio Henrique and Volland on the bench.
A precise regulation
Note that this sixth special concussion change, which is still at the experimental stage, can theoretically be done in three cases:
-immediately after a concussion or potential situation
-at the end of an initial three-minute evaluation period in the field and / or at the end of the evaluation carried out off the field
-at any other time in the event of a potential or potential concussion (especially if a player has already been examined and has resumed play).
In any event, the replaced player is no longer authorized to return to the playing area, and the club doctor concerned must make a declaration of concussion after the game to the medical management of the FFF. An expert examination must then be carried out within 72 hours of the concussion by a doctor who is part of the official list of concussion expert doctors of the federation.
