Friday, September 10, early in the morning, on the Place de la Liberation in Maubourguet, the air smelled of violets. Very motivated, by the program “All in Toulouse”, the female cycle tourists, coming from 5 clubs of the French Federation of Cyclo Tourism (FFCT) of the department were at the rendezvous. Participated:
Françoise and Christine from “Cigognes”, Éliane, Katia, Marie-Line from “UA Laloubère”, Maryse from “Guidon Juillanais”, Chantal, Danielle, Joëlle, Dany from “Cyclo Roue Libre”, Jackie, Némo, Nonoy, Raymonde, Viviane, Annie from “SOM Cyclo Val d’Adour”.
The happy departure of the “65” group was given at 8 am striking by Jean-Jacques Cassou, president of the “Codep 65” in the presence of a few admiring spouses in front of these sportswomen. After the leader’s whistle… let’s go!
Light fog up to Marciac, relatively ideal temperature with an arrival at 11 am in Mirande where Christiane from the “Masseube” club (32) was waiting for them. A warm welcome was reserved for them, which made it possible to forget the 115 km covered with 1,300 m of vertical drop. On Saturday morning, the Gersoises joined the group and enjoyed the coffee offered by the Samatan club. At 9 am, under the instructions of Nicole, referent (Gers) and encouraged by Lionel (president of Codep Gers), the start can take place. There are now 32 cyclists divided into 3 groups accompanied by J. Claude Geychet. All heading towards Fontenilles (following a change of itinerary), allowing them to follow the Boulouze. More than 40 km the city is close … 12:30 pm, it’s the picnic in Tournefeuille with an arrival around 3:30 pm at the meadow of “Filters”. Volunteers dressed in purple t-shirts welcome all groups from all over France and Belgium, so many “Violets”, so many bikes!
In “Tolosa”, Toulouse, the pink city, interpreted so well by Claude Nougaro, it is the joy of reunion. The “Violets” mix with the sound of songs and dances for the giant picnic which brings together 3,000 participants.
All these women expressed their joy in a wonderful atmosphere. Whatever their age, their club, they showed an unwavering solidarity in the effort, friendship was at the end of the road. Congratulations to all these women, for a route of 245 km. They are ready to set off on new adventures and have not failed to add: “we loved it serious!”. A new club was born: “Les Violettes du 65”.
