Since 6.30 am this Thursday, September 23, 25 firefighters have been facing an apartment fire in which three people live in the town of Bondigoux. Obviously, a man purposely set the building on fire after assaulting one of the occupants.
A fire, a person injured and another arrested … The morning of this Thursday was agitated in Bondigoux, a small village located north-east of Toulouse.
Shortly after six in the morning, a man was walking near his home when he was brutally attacked by a hooded individual. The suspect, armed with an iron bar or a baton according to witnesses, allegedly beat the victim. And once it was badly banged up, the respondent would have attacked his accommodation. He set fire to an old rectory transformed into a dwelling, where the victim and two tenants live.
The victim already targeted in the past
Called in as reinforcements, around twenty firefighters were called in to stop the fire. The injured man, who had already been targeted in the past, was taken to hospital for further examinations but his life is not in danger. As for the other two occupants of the building, they are simply inconvenienced by the smoke.
After having committed his forfeit, the offender has to try to disappear from the radars discreetly. But his flight was not long. Helped by the report of the victim, the gendarmes of the company of Toulouse Saint-Michel, dispatched on the spot, quickly spotted a man who corresponded to the description. He was arrested, this thirty-something would have been carrying a telescopic baton.
This homeless person is known by the neighborhood and the police. For several weeks, it has been disrupting the lives of residents in this normally calm village. The gendarmes have already apprehended him for his involvement in the narcotics industry.
Two other fires in a neighboring town
Is this case related to drug trafficking? Is it revenge for some other reason?
Investigators from the Toulouse Saint-Michel research brigade, in charge of investigations by the Toulouse prosecutor’s office, are currently questioning him during police custody. Yesterday, the criminal identification technicians found many clues.
Coincidence or not, two other fires took place a few minutes before this attack in the neighboring town of Villemur-sur-Tarn. A restaurant terrace and a truck went up in smoke.
Are these cases related? It’s too early to know …
