The volcanic ash arrived in Greece
On the morning of Tuesday (21/9) it explored once again the volcano of Mount Etna in Sicily, as a result of which a huge column of volcanic ash rose in the sky. The result was a large cloud of ash and lava particles.
Images of the spectacular phenomenon have spread around the world and focused on public interest, but have also heightened the scientific community’s concern about the volcanic activity of Europe’s most active crater.
Among other things, specialized centers were called to monitor the course of the volcanic ash and issued warnings for the safety of air navigation. In particular, in warning maps issued by the volcanic ash monitoring center in the center of Toulouse, it is stated that after the expression of the volcano, the emission of sulfur dioxide is weak, but the course of the smoke and ash in its upper layers atmosphere (plume) extends east at an altitude of 10000 to 30000 feet. This means that the broadcasts reached Greece, in the Southern Ionian and passed over our country. Specifically, yesterday at 15:30 the number was at high altitudes above the northwestern Peloponnese.

EMY monitors the phenomenon in detail through specialized satellite products at its disposal.

It is noted that EMY was able to monitor the phenomenon through the large resolution of satellite images that are available from polar orbiting meteorological satellites that it receives through the Athens satellite station.
Mount Etna is the highest volcano in Europe at 3,350 meters.
