Chalk lines mapped out for Flemish corona pass: residential care center
Mayors of Flemish municipalities from the outskirts of Brussels will soon be allowed to use a corona pass. There is no pass in other cities and municipalities in Flanders. That is what the top ministers of the Flemish government have decided. On Wednesday they stretched out the outlines of the use of the Corona Safe Ticket (CST) in Flanders. The Council of Ministers has yet to give the final green light on Friday. There is a very good chance that the CST will also be used in healthcare institutions.
The use of the corona pass is already well established in almost all our neighboring countries. The CST will also be held in Brussels in October. In a total number of infections, hospitalizations and deaths, there is also the number of infections. The corona pass is also used for events with at least 500 people inside and 750 outside and for dance halls – which will open their doors again on October 1.
However, the Flemish government must still be able to use the decision of the pass for other changes in addition to the dances and events. Flemish suburbs such as Vilvoorde have been asking for this for some time now. Because they also struggle with low vaccination figures and because they deeply believe that Brussels residents come to work out or drink a beer in Flanders.
Around Brussels
The core cabinet of the Jambon government decided on Wednesday to respond to that question. In all municipalities where the vaccination rate is lower than 75 percent, the mayor may introduce the CST. But it concerns municipalities in the outskirts around Brussels, because they may become developments with inhabitants of Brussels who break their catering doors. Antwerp, for example – which is also below the threshold – is not included in bad. Mayor and N-VA chairman Bart De Wever did not want to hear about it either.
Mayors of Vilvoorde, Zaventem or Wemmel will therefore also introduce a corona pass from October. But to prevent every municipality from deploying it differently, the Flemish government will determine on Friday what exactly that means.
There is a particularly high chance that the CST will also be used in healthcare institutions – residential care centers and collaboration centers. The Flemish government has yet to work out how that will happen and in which places it will be deployed in those institutions. At the request of Flemish Minister of Welfare Wouter Beke (CD&V), the Care Task Force has already issued an advice on this. Not yet commenting on the content of the Beke cabinet on Wednesday.
