Carnival in Cologne: The city will set up a 3G zone in the old town
A whole carnival season was canceled due to the pandemic. At this year’s start on 11.11. Die Stadt Köln wants to make it possible to celebrate again – for those who have been vaccinated, those who have recovered and those who have been tested.
For the traditional carnival start on 11.11. Die Stadt Köln wants to turn parts of the old town and around the Zülpicher Straße, popular with Jecken, into a 3G zone.
Only those who have been vaccinated, recovered or tested would have access, as was announced after a round table with those responsible for the carnival.
According to a general decree, there should be an “access control” which, among other things, gilds around the Heumarkt. On the square itself – where there should be a stage as usual – the organizer even relies on the 2G rule: Only those who have been vaccinated or have recovered are allowed in.
The so-called Kwartier Latäng around Zülpicher Straße is also to be assigned a 3G access rule, according to a message from Monday evening. The street with many pubs was always crowded before Corona at the start of the carnival and at the carnival itself.
There are still no plans for the start of the carnival in Düsseldorf, said a spokesman for the Düsseldorf Carneval Committee on Tuesday. There is still some time until then. In the state capital on 11.11. traditionally the Hoppeditz awakening is celebrated. The carnival figure then makes a mockery of politics.
