In Prague, it is most infected among children
“We are in a situation where another era of the coronavirus epidemic seems to be beginning,” we present at a press conference today, Health Councilor Milena Johnová (Prague to Herself). According to her, the situation is not dramatic, but it is getting worse.
Prague is one of the regions most affected by the growing epidemic. Therefore, the municipality has already started work on vaccination with the third dose. “We are preparing a booster dose for groups of people who have been identified by the government as being most at risk,” compare John. According to her, these are people who were vaccinated at the beginning of the year and belong to risk groups, for example due to age or health problems. After a month, which has passed since their vaccination, their antibody levels have dropped.
“We consider it a good decision,” John must. The first dose in Prague is more than 81% of people, the second 77.9%. Prague now wants to focus primarily on social services. “We firmly hope that covid will break down on vaccinations,” John said.
So far, 192,000 people have demonstrably suffered in Prague. “Unfortunately, our morbidity is rising, as we expected. Children have returned to school, adults have to work, they have to follow mobility. Currently, most patients are in the age category of 6 to 11 years, there are 141 per hundred thousand inhabitants. It is run by the age group of 12 to 16 years, where we reach the limit of 136 patients per hundred thousand inhabitants in Prague, “said Zdeňka Jágrová, director of the Hygiene Station of the Capital City of Prague.
According to her, eleven patients are hospitalized in intensive care units in Prague, most of them unvaccinated. “That’s why I would appeal for people to be vaccinated,” Jagr said. She added that the number R in Prague is 1.15, which is slightly higher than the average of the Czech Republic: “Prague is always more affected by airborne diseases due to the influence of foreigners who move here.”
Across the Czech Republic, tests confirmed 489 new cases of coronavirus on Monday, which is practically the same as a week ago. There were 164 people in hospitals related to covid-19, ten more than at the end of the weekend and seven more than last Monday. The number of infected patients in a serious condition is still around thirty. The reproduction number showing the rate of spread of the disease to date has dropped slightly to 1.08 from 1.14. It has remained above one since the end of August, accelerating the epidemic.
The so-called incidence number, ie the number of newly confirmed cases of covid in the last seven days per 100,000 inhabitants, remains on the fifth day on 28 applications. Furthermore, it is the highest in Prague, where it increased to 49 cases of infection per week per 100,000 inhabitants. Manage the Moravian-Silesian Region with 41 cases. On the contrary, the Liberec region is the best with 11 patients.
As last year, the number of newly confirmed cases began to grow this year with the end of the holidays, the return of people to work, children to school and overall greater mobility in society. According to ČTK, experts assume that the coming wave will not burden hospitals as dramatically as they did last autumn or this spring, especially due to the large number of people who have already been vaccinated against the covid or have suffered from the disease.
In the examined samples in the Czech Republic, the more contagious delta mutations, formerly referred to as Indian, and its subvariants predominate. There are still some restrictions in the country, there is no risk of a general lockdown, such as the closure of schools, previous services and shops, or drastic restrictions on daily activities and movement, according to the government. However, we recall stricter restrictions in the most affected regions or the resumption of testing in schools.
During the entire covid-19 epidemic in the Czech Republic since the beginning of last March, almost 1.69 million cases of the disease were confirmed in the country, the vast majority of people recovered from the disease and 30,442 people with covid-19 died. The number of deaths is slowly increasing compared to the holidays, with the Ministry registering four so far on Monday.
People in the Czech Republic have been vaccinated against covid-19 since the end of last December. During the whole period, the medics administered over 11.73 million doses of nursing homes and almost 5.9 million people were fully vaccinated. Recently, the pace of vaccination has been slowing down – more than 100,000 people have been vaccinated daily in June or July, daily numbers have dropped to tens of thousands during August, and in recent weeks they have been in the thousands. Almost 10,500 people were vaccinated last day, almost 14,000 a week ago.
From Monday, doctors who have eight months after the end of the covid-19 vaccination can get another booster dose. For the time being, they are mostly health professionals or seniors from residential social care facilities. This year, more than a million people will be able to be vaccinated again.
