Ukraine has dramatically grown vegetables and potatoes in Belarus
Ukraine in 2021 significantly increased the export of vegetables, borsch set and potatoes to Belarus.
In the first 6 months of 2021, supplies of carrots from Ukraine to Belarus increased 50 times to almost 8 thousand tons, marketable potatoes – 3 times to 5 thousand tons, onions 2.7 times to 2.4 thousand rubles. tons, table beet 6 times to 1.9 thousand tons, according to EastFruit…
According to experts, some of the products were supplied to Russia, where high prices for these vegetables were observed in the summer.
Thus, prices for carrots in Russia reached $ 0.9 in late June and early July. In Belarus, prices were 2.5 times lower, and in Ukraine they were about $ 0.25, i.e. almost four times lower than in Russia.
“Naturally, such a difference in prices did not stimulate the supply of Ukrainian carrots to Belarus, but made such supplies through Belarus to Russia very profitable,” experts say, noting that the export of Ukrainian carrots amounted to 8 thousand rubles. tons, and Belarusian – to Russia 52 thousand tons. Delivery through Belarus.
Similar price gaps were observed in prices for table beets, which also increased significantly from Ukraine to Belarus. And here, too, the gap in the volume of exports from Ukraine to Belarus and Belarus to Russia shows that part of the Ukrainian sanctioned beets most likely ended up on the shelves of supermarkets in the Russian Federation.
At the same time, potato price gaps were much lower – within the transportation cost. At the same time, until mid-April, prices for potatoes in Belarus were even lower than in Ukraine.
“Obviously, Belarus exported potatoes to Russia until mid-April, and then, when prices for potatoes inside the country rose sharply, it began to buy potatoes from Ukraine itself. It was in June 2021 that Ukraine exported the main volumes of potatoes to the Belarusian market.
Now Belarus continues to import potatoes from Ukraine. To date, wholesale prices for potatoes of a new crop in Ukraine are significantly lower than in Russia and Belarus, ”the experts state.
For onions, there was definitely no re-export of Ukrainian products to Russia through Belarus, experts say, because the prices for this type of vegetables in Belarus in the first half of 2021 were higher than in Russia. Therefore, there was a net export from Ukraine to Belarus.
“For the first half of this year, Ukraine earned $ 6.7 million on the supply of vegetables from a borscht set to Belarus,” the experts summed up.
