Turkish article: “Athens will give the islands to the US”
Shortly after Navtex with the needs of Turkey challenges Greek sovereignty off Crete and at the same time trying to commit to the center of the Aegean for exercise cases, Yeni Şafak undertakes to “hit”.
A day after the common message of European leaders against Turkey’s strategic aspirations in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Turkish provocations started again with harassment on the French research ship “Nautical Geo”, which is doing research in the east of Crete. A few hours later, the Turkish pro-government newspaper wrote in an article “Athens will give the islands to the USA”, and recounts the demilitarization.
According to the report, “The US, which set up a base in Alexandroupolis to have a presence in the Mediterranean and the Aegean, now to suppress Russia and Turkey, has turned its attention to the islands.”
Specifically, the article talks about the islands of Samothrace, Lemnos, Mytilene and Skyros.
Yeni Şafak states that “the United States will apply for permission to use some of the Aegean islands, which do not have a military status, but are armed by Greece.”
