However, the coffee pioneer is not satisfied with this and is committed to achieving Net Zero. Remaining emissions are offset by investments in reforestation and nature conservation projects by certified partners in coffee-producing countries.
“After the company of CO2 neutrality, we are consistently continuing our path towards Net Zero with these far-reaching measures. We take our responsibility seriously and are committed to a more sustainable future “, says Alessandro Piccinini, managing director of Nespresso Austria. Net Zero means the reduction of the climate impact from clear, science-based goals and with compensation exclusively within the own value chain, for example by planting trees on and around coffee farms.
Austria as a pioneer and one of the first countries to offer CO2-neutral coffee enjoyment
Austria is one of the first countries worldwide in which Nespresso makes the enjoyment of every cup of coffee CO2-neutral – together with the USA, France, Australia and New Zealand. The other countries will follow step by step until 2022. The ambition to play a leading role in shaping the transition to sustainable agriculture in the coffee industry has arisen Nespresso Beyond CO2 neutrality, we are obliged to achieve net zero.
Until that goal is achieved, invest Nespresso to compensate for remaining CO2 emissions in a total of eleven environmental protection projects by certified partners such as South Pole, PUR Projet and PACHAMA. As part of these projects – such as “Mai-Ndombe” in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and “Jubilación Segura” in Peru – carries Nespresso contributes to the preservation and protection of the natural landscape, promotes the use of clean energy and the promotion of forests and supports the local population in improving their quality of life.

In the Nespresso Sustainability is also very important to boutiques. They get their electricity 100% from renewable energy sources, and the lighting is almost exclusively with LEDs. Sets during transport and delivery of the coffee Nespresso on sustainable solutions such as CO2-neutral delivery with Austrian Post and delivery by e-truck to the boutiques in Vienna and the surrounding area.
Commitment to a more sustainable future: Net Zero as a major goal
To further reduce CO2 emissions pursued Nespresso a step-by-step plan. “In Austria we will continuously expand the recycling options in order to further increase the recycling rate and further optimize the energy consumption in our boutiques. We are also planning to convert the fleet to electric cars and vehicles with hybrid drives, ”says Marianne Neumüller-Klapper, giving an outlook on some of the planned measures.
Cross-national sets Nespresso in the manufacture of the capsules, increasingly on recycled aluminum. From 2022, all capsules for the home will be made with at least 80% recycled aluminum.
