In Belarus, a woman was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison for a tweet criticizing Lukashenka | Hromadske television
This is stated by the Belarusian TV channel “Belsat”.
The reason for the criminal case was Vikholm’s tweet about the forced landing of a Ryanair plane in Minsk. She named this event “Lukashenka’s next crime” and “An act of state terrorism”…
The woman posted a tweet at the end of May, and was soon detained by the security forces. But this became known only in September – the Russian woman had no close relatives in Belarus who could inform about it.
In court, the woman asked for the dismissal of the judge and prosecutors. The court did not satisfy this request. Vikholm also turned down a lawyer assigned to her, writes Mediazona Belarus.
A woman born in 1963 has been in the Brest pre-trial detention center since the end of May. According to the investigation, Vikholm published Lukashenka and “Slanderous information about his committing an” act of terrorism and aviation piracy “”… In the publication, the woman quoted a statement from the Greek Foreign Ministry regarding the situation with Ryanair.
Forced boarding
On May 23, Roman Protasevich, co-founder of the opposition Belarusian Telegram channels, was detained in Minsk. He was on a Ryanair plane en route from Athens to Vilnius.
During the flight over the territory of Belarus, local dispatchers reported about the possible mining of the aircraft. The plane, accompanied by a fighter, landed at the Minsk airport. There, during the second inspection of passengers, Protasevich was detained, as well as his girlfriend, a Russian citizen, Sofia Sapega. She was arrested for two months on criminal charges.
The forced landing of the plane and the arrest of Protasevich were condemned by European politicians, the United States and Ukraine. EU countries and United Kingdom decided to close their skies to Belarusian aircraft. Ukraine has suspended flights with Belarus since May 26.
