A bridge over the IJ, what do YOU think?
For years people have been meeting, bickering, complaining, shouting and discussing a bridge over the IJ. Every day, about 70,000 people take the ferry to and from Amsterdam-North. That is a lot and it is also getting busier on the water. That bridge has to be built at some point. But what kind of bridge? And how much?

There is now a proposal for two bridges and a pedestrian tunnel. The municipality asks its residents to think about it and give their opinion.
Jump over the IJ
The two bridges planned will be on the west side of the city (between the Houthavens and NDSM) and on the east side (between Azartplein and Johan van Hasseltweg). These bridges must in any case be accessible to cyclists, and preferably public transport.

The proposal also includes a separate pedestrian tunnel between Central Station and the Tolhuistuin in Noord.
Think along
A plan was previously drawn up for a bridge over the IJ. That plan did not go through because, according to research, it would be too unsafe for ships to pass through. There had to be a new plan. That plan is now in place and you can think about it.
On this website you can view all the information and give your opinion about the plans. For example, what do you think of the location of the bridges? And is it a good idea that the future tunnel is only accessible to the public? You can contribute ideas and voice your opinion until 31 October 2021.
