Prague contributes to the busy Chlumecká Street cycle path. It is also intended to protect drivers in the new car park
The removal of the parking lane creates 101 new parking spaces at the Black Bridge.
A new cycle lane is being built on one of the main streets at the exit from Prague in the direction of Mladá Boleslav or Hradec Králové. Adjustments Chlumecké street attracts attention on social networks, especially for drivers who see oppression of their freedom in the reserved part of the road for people on their bikes. In practice, however, the measure is intended to help car owners in particular.
Further modifications on Chlumecká Street at the exit from Prague from the Rajská zahrada metro station. Drivers still have two lanes, but they will be narrower. The bike lane will be in place of the existing parking lane, which will be used as well as parking.
The cycle strip is created in a place where a few meters from it there is a cycle path leading along the upper part of the metro tube between Rajská zahrada and Černý Most. According to pages of the Prague 14 district It was also established due to the fact that many people did not use the cycle path on the tube due to the complicated passage through the area of the Černý Most terminal.
Protection of people getting out of cars
The modifications will create a total of 101 parking spaces between the Paradise Garden and Černý Most. In particular, there will be owners of cars coming to Prague for work. At first glance, however, it seems a mystery why the bike lane is closer to passing cars than parked cars, which will be completely on the side of the road. This can lead to a situation where a parked driver overlooks a cyclist in a bicycle lane while getting off.
Reason? It has the protection of people getting out of the car. “At the same time, the bicycle lane will perform a protective function for people getting out of the car on the left side. Behind the parking belt towards the tube, a pedestrian corridor is being created, which will hopefully lead to the Rajská zahrada metro station. It should be replaced, if necessary, by a sidewalk, from which another new connection is being created under the metro tube to Cíglerova Street near the intersection with Pospíchalová Street,“The town hall described it on its website.
Chlumecká’s modifications aroused strong reactions among some of their social networks unable to find out information about the project. They are worried that only one lane for cars remains on Chlumecká. “We want the road to remain two-lane for cars in both directions. This change (together with the parking house in Černý Most) should relieve especially the local streets and thus make parking easier for the citizens of Prague 14. Further addition of parking spaces in the Prague 14 district at the tram turn to Lehovec,“Tell City Hall.”
The municipality probably hates Prague 9. Another limitation is Chlumecka… instead of two lanes, one and a bicycle pic.twitter.com/anC9ye3HZT
