The Sultan Ahmed mosque in Heusden-Zolder received a threatening letter. That declaration mentions the local police zone. “We have acted on the complaint and the judicial investigation is ongoing,” he says.
The Antwerp police zone is also aware of at least three threatening letters to mosques in the city. “We are conducting an investigation and the public prosecutor has been informed,” said Willem Migom of the Antwerp police zone. “Our cell diversity is also on the case. The letter was signed by B. The name is Mayor Bart Dever. It’s not about him, of course.”
Korkmaz, a board member of the mosque, opened the threatening letter yesterday. “It said that the people of Islam are a bad influence on society. That religion is a big lie that must be stopped. He calls Allah a traitor and a liar and Muhammad a swindler. He also wrote that the Quran should be banned and we are not welcome in Belgium,” he says. “We are afraid of the writer, but regret that we do not have to experience in a multicultural society. We associate well with our neighbors and with other faith communities. It’s the first time we get such a short. We hope the police do their job and stop the man.”
