Flying next to migrating birds sounds like a dream. A pilot did it in real life alongside geese that he himself raised in Annecy (Haute-Savoie).
Every morning, it’s the same ritual in Doussard, near Annecy, in Haute-Savoie. Dominique Cruciani takes a tour of his ULM, specially equipped for flight with birds, to see if everything is in order. Then, he will greet his little ones, migratory geese. Every day, they go for a little ULM tour. “They watch me, I watch them, I watch their altitude, if they follow, it is very important, they are only three months old”, he explains.
This flight is the fruit of an apprenticeship that begins with the birth of the chicks. We call it “impregnation”. “That they come out of the egg, the first living being that they see at the exit of the egg, they are like the parents, and from that moment it will create a bond which is for life , until they are fed up with their parents “, explains Cassandre Schneider, from Delta-Évasion. They will fly over Lake Annecy until they are three years old, then they will fly to other skies.
