For unvaccinated people: FFP2 compulsory in Austria: According to “Stiftung Warentest”, these masks are unsuitable
While it was abolished in Germany, Austria will introduce it from September 15: The FFP2 mask requirement in retail applies to unvaccinated people and is intended to curb the spread of the corona virus. Even tourists who have not yet been vaccinated or not fully vaccinated are subject to the FFP2 obligation. We will show YOU which masks Stiftung Warentest recommends and which masks are advised against.
FFP2 masks from different manufacturers cut streaky in an investigation by Stiftung Warentest. While there were no complaints about the filter performance of the materials, the testers complained about the fit of the majority of the ten masks tested – and about the breathing comfort for three masks.
For its investigation, the foundation first measured the comfort level when exhaling with the help of an art form “artificial lung” and a sensor, as the test report says. With seven masks, the measured resistance was so great that it was difficult to breathe. They were therefore rated as “unsuitable”, as older and weakened people in particular could get problems as a result.
For the first test in February, only one mask is recommended without restriction: The
The Stiftung Warentest also identifies the Uvex FFP2 NR silv-Air lite 4200 as “suitable”. Here, however, the breathing comfort is medium. In addition, Stiftung Warentest describes the Dräger FFP2 NR D X-Plore 1720 C and the Hum Aeroprotective Filtering Half Mask M-9520 as “also suitable”. However, both are contaminated with latex proteins. The latter also only have moderate breathing comfort.
The well-known SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach has in one Tweet mentionedthat he is also on the Stiftung Warentest test winner
Not very suitable: dm and Rossmann masks in the criticism
Since it is generally more difficult to breathe through well-fitting FFP2 masks compared to surgical masks, the advice is to take regular mask breaks. So the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) recommends wearing a maximum of 75 minutes – then you should take a half-hour break from your mask.
The Stiftung Warentest describes a total of seven masks as not very suitable, including the products from dm and Rossmann. Although these have a high filter effect, they offer little breathing comfort.
