After a one-year hiatus, the Signal 2021 festival of light installations is returning to the center of Prague, which will take place from Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th October 2021. This year the event will take place in the districts of Holešovice, Karlín and the Old Town. There will be a popular videomapping and accompanying program. The novelty of this year’s sixth year will be the Signal AR of virtual installations in augmented reality.
“The pilot year of Signal AR combines art, experiment and innovative technologies, elements that the Signal Festival has always been close to. That is why we have collaborated on a number of projects in the past. Augmented reality is a playful, interactive medium whose possibilities we have now exploited and prepared for the artistic invasion of digital holograms into urban space, “said Robin Pultera of Brainz Immersive. It will be possible to view the installation in AR even after the end of the event, until next year.
“For the first time, visitors will also visit Holešovice. One of the most anticipated works of art is a monumental 3D projection from the Spanish studio Onionlab, which will turn the well-known environment of the Industrial Palace at the Prague Exhibition Grounds into a unique experience. There will also be a popular videomapping of the church of St. Cyril and Methodius on Karlin Square. The German studio Weltraumgrafik interestingly interprets this year’s festival theme. His projection is abstract and hypnotic. It reacts to the global pandemic, but the creators perceive the disaster as a request and a new beginning, “says the festival’s media representative Nikola Lörinczová.
Other installations include the Blooming of Light by Vrtišek and Žák, the Living Forest installation by Kateřina Blahutová, a projection in the Observatory and Planetarium called Radical Compromise, the Archaic News installation by Jiří Černický, the BirdScape projection by Klára Míčková, the illuminated Permafrost installation and Šimon Mašek Josef Schmidt, screening of The Room by Change from Italian Accurat and others. The festival pass will be sold in advance until October 4, 200 crowns, then 250 crowns and 300 crowns on the spot.
