Kondakov Institute and its iconic collection presented in NGP
Commentary on the exhibited works – icons from the collection of the important expert of Russian and Byzantine art Nikodim Pavlovich Kondakov, who left Russia after the October Revolution. As part of the so-called Russian action, initiated by President Masaryk, he was granted asylum in Prague in 1922, and Kondakov’s students founded an institute bearing his name.

A guided tour with art historian Jitka Šosová presented the works of modern painters, sculptors, designers and architects (Otto Gutfreund, Zdeněk Pešánek, Ladislav Sutnar and Družstevní práce publishing house), whose work supported efforts to build the first Czechoslovak Republic as a democratic and civic state.

Guided tour with art historian Jitka Šosová to present artists criticizing the social conditions of the First Republic – Karel Holan, Milada Marešová, Vlasta Vostřebalová Fischerová and the art group Devětsil and her publications. A comparison with what is happening on the Slovak art scene will also show a more plastic view of the idealized period of our history.
