Studio DC Comics has prepared a gift for a bat man who will celebrate his 82nd birthday this Saturday. But age means nothing to him. In a new book defeats evil in 14 languages. The cover is always local – in the Czech Republic you can see Batman on Charles Bridge next to the statue of Jan Nepomucký with Prague Castle in the back.
The comic Batman will appear in the Czech Republic for the first time. Listen to a report by Alžběta Havlová
The author of the story is the writer Štěpán Kopřiva. In the original scenarios, he also had Rudolfinian Prague with alchemists who want to telepathically kill Rudolf II.
“It simply didn’t work out for us. Then we connected it with a relatively bizarre affair, when in the 1980s, unscientific experiments with psychokinetics and telekinesis were held here on the premises of the Communist Institute. It was under the auspices of a friend of the Central Committee of the Communist Party, nicknamed the ‘Bolshevik Wizard’, “Štěpán Kopřiva told Radiožurnál.
The “Czech X-Files” were then directed by František Kahuda, who, among other things, measured the speed of thinking and came up with the theory of mental energy. In the comic, we get the surname Hudec and it is almost certain that Batman will get it.
“We also renamed the institute, because the comic will present the premise that paranormal things really work on a massive scale, which never happened in reality,” adds Kopřiva.
Proven draftsman
The life of his screenplays called Red Meat was inspired by the illustrator Michal Suchánek. They were immediately clear about it at DC Comics headquarters, because he had previously drawn a successful envelope for Wonder Woman for them.
“It was a great opportunity for me to try to draw the character of Batman – not only in a drawer, but also in a real project,” says Suchánek.
In the new comic, Bruce Wayne will look not only for the Czech Republic but also for Russia or Brazil. And maybe even Batman jumping between Prague blocks of flats gets on the movie screen.
