Annecy: the Léman Express at the heart of the residents’ revolt
Their anger is fierce and it is not about to fade away. As the report France-Blue Monday, September 13, a handful of residents are angry with the Léman Express (LEX), this cross-border train also called the Franco-Valdois-Geneva RER (Regional Express Network). Since its full commissioning in December 2019, it has been at the center of all discussions among residents of the Petit Brogny district of Annecy. If some have lived there for years, and are used to the noise of trains since they live next to the tracks, for a year and a half, their life has become hell.
Indeed, according to them, the train emits a rather strident horn, “it is much louder, much more acute than the others”, details a resident. Information confirmed to our colleagues by a neighbor, who adds that at peak times, “it’s every fifteen minutes”. Before the launch of LEX, however, no one complained.

“In everyday life, it’s really heavy”
“There are days when I am so surprised by the noise that I make connections on my terrace,” confesses another resident. Such disarray which led these inhabitants to ring the revolt and write to the SNCF. This last knowledge of their anger, but their response that train drivers were forced to honk when entering and exiting a tunnel which is the case on this part. An official of the SNCF of the region specifies: “It is even an obligation registered in the European regulation of rail safety.”
“We really have the impression that the Léman Express trains are whistling louder. In fact, what we hear is much higher. So obviously, the frequency of passage is higher than before, but these trains do more. This is something that we would like to remove, “launches Sophie Pantin at the head of the protest movement. She adds that a little further into the city, trains do not whistle near another tunnel. “In everyday life, it’s really heavy,” she adds to France-Blue. These residents who are not in the city hope to be heard and are convinced that a solution can be found. It remains to find where.
