Amsterdam is investing 2.2 million in MBO education
Amsterdam is desperate for well-trained, enterprising and agile staff, according to health alderman Simone Kukenheim. ‘The MBO student is the hoof role player within the great ambitions of the city. (…) It is necessary that we continue to invest in an attractive and innovative MBO.’
The corona crisis has caused a structural shortage of internships, especially in Amsterdam. Partly for this reason, one in five MBO students suffered a study delay last year.
The scheme, part of the MBO Agenda, is intended to improve the quality of education and to prepare young people for a successful school career. With the projects from the MBO Agenda, we have achieved great success with the Amsterdam MBO in recent years. We will continue with that,” said Kukenheim. The municipality interests to grant 21 projects and involved two themes that are important: entrepreneurship and care.
Business and care
One of the projects started this week. In the Ondermerslab Amsterdam, 55 students learn about entrepreneurship and how to start their own business. This is necessary because there is still no generic offer in MBO education about entrepreneurial skills.
Starting next week, 120 students will receive an internship in healthcare. There situations currently great shortage of stage. Gain practical experience with simulations. A program for lateral entrants, who are considering a switch to health care, is also subsidised.
