Salzburg has brought in the seventh win in the seventh game of the season in the Bundesliga. In the 3-1 (1-0) win at WSG Tirol, the champions struggled for 80 minutes in Innsbruck’s Tivoli Stadium, with substitutes Noah Okafor (83rd) and Benjamin Sesko (88th) giving the Mozart city-dwellers the win . At the top of the table, Salzburg is now ten points ahead of Sturm Graz.
Adamu (28′) put Salzburg in the lead as planned. The still winless WSG managed to equalize after an increase in performance after a change of sides by Blume (54th). When it came down to it, Salzburg coach Jaissle was able to react from the bench. The German and his team will continue on Tuesday. At the start of the Champions League, Salzburg make a guest appearance at top Spanish club FC Sevilla.
WSG trainer Silberberger had expected “maximum intensity” from the guests in the first quarter of an hour. The two back four of the Tyroleans were closely staggered. Salzburg, who came in without the injured Junuzovic (bruised heel) and Aaronson, who only returned late from the USA, acted dominantly, relying on ball control and looking for a gap.
Joker goals give Salzburg victory in Innsbruck
The WSG, who were missing Vrioni, who was suffering from thigh problems, at least managed to take the tempo out of the game. With the best scoring opportunity in the first quarter of an hour, Adamu escaped from the opponents when Ulmer crossed, but failed at WSG keeper Ferdinand Oswald (4th). After almost half an hour, the Wattener suddenly had the lead on his foot – but immediately conceded the 0:1.
Tobias Anselm first shot wide of the goal from the edge of the penalty area (27′), before Adamu started to solo on the other side. Austria’s U21 international danced out of Awoudja, made space and shot from 16 meters. Salzburg executed, but was lucky five minutes later with an art shot. Agile Anselm heeled a cross towards the goal and hit the bar (33′). Overall, the break lead of the master was deserved.
At Salzburg, Kjaergaard came on for Bernardo after a change of sides, who was unable to set any accents in left midfield. A few minutes passed before Wöber was careless and the WSG equalized. The defender made a bad pass, the ball came to Blume via Anselm, who finished precisely and sharply. It was his first goal in the Bundesliga for the Dane, who was brought in in the summer.
Salzburg’s sovereignty is thus lost a little. Jaissle reacted and brought in Sesko for Adeyemi, who did little. The Slovenian team striker had the 2:1 at his feet, but shot wide of the goal (74th). Shortly thereafter, Okafor came for Adamu as well. Silberberger reacted to the increasing pressure from the opponent with a triple exchange – in vain. Against the now tired Wattener, Okafor flicked the ball from 17 meters into the Kreuzeck for the preliminary decision. After Oswald’s defense against Okafor, Sesko scored Salzburg’s third goal.
