start of reconstruction work on the Albert Lebrun bridge, an opportunity to review traffic in the city center
It is located on one of the busiest roads in the city. The Albert Lebrun bridge in Annecy will be demolished and then rebuilt identically. 10 months of work are planned. A deviation is established. The opportunity to reimburse downtown traffic for elected officials.
The Albert Lebrun bridge, built in 1934 in Annecy, had become too fragile to withstand the heavy traffic of the city center. It will be demolished to be rebuilt identically. Ten months of work are planned. Motorists will have to change their habits in this sector.
A necessary site
The Albert Lebrun bridge, located at the entrance to the old town near the Bonlieu center and Pâquier, has supported increasingly dense traffic for 80 years. Extensive investigations, undertaken in 2018, revealed significant corrosion.
“At the time, we had repair hypotheses explains Lionel Josserand, operations manager for the reconstruction of the bridge, it soon turned out that was not enough. “
The structure no longer meets current construction standards and is not structured to support current traffic. It will therefore be demolished to be rebuilt. A colossal project that will last nearly a year.
Rethinking traffic in the city center
The works, which have just started, already have traffic arrangements. Two lanes are accepted and a detour has been set up.
To facilitate travel, Greater Annecy is implementing alternative solutions to the car. For elected officials, this work is an opportunity to start thinking about reimbursing traffic in the city center with more buses and bicycles and fewer cars. “We can take advantage of this work to change behavior», Confirms Marion Lafarie, deputy mayor in charge of roads and active mobility.
In the meantime, so that Annecy residents are not stuck in traffic jams every day, solutions are proposed:
– 80 VAE (self-service bicycles) will be available for short trips to town between Sevrier, Annecy and Veyrier-du-Lac, with a relay car park in Sevrier.
– The “Special Sevrier” shuttle (NS) is created between the exchange hub of the station and Sevrier (town hall), with a bus every hour.
– The community triples the public transport offer on the lake shore lines: 27 daily round trips on the East Shore (L60) and 43 on the West Shore (L50 A, B, C), from 5.30 am to 11.00 pm.
– Between Leschaux and Saint-Jorioz, a new on-demand transport Proxibus line (TAD) allows the connection to line 50 every 1:30, from 6:30 a.m. to 6:25 p.m. Certain adaptations to the bus network have also been made, the 6-wire line terminus from Colmyr to Bonlieu.
