Living room and support center for young people
Since September 1, 2021, the Youth East, StreetsmArt and @Ease have joined forces and focus on low-threshold support for vulnerable young people and young adults. It concerns young people between the ages of 16 and 27 who for various reasons. The collaboration starts at the brand new StreetsmArt location in a former old garage in the Molukkenstraat.
The space feels like a living room to chill, chat and organize activities. Young people can go there to do activities together, to play sports, but ultimately expenses and financial problems, and things like finding day schooling and internships.
New location youth organization StreetsmArt
Elhoussaine Hmimou, StreetsmArt coordinator, is happy with this new step: “It is really great that after 5 years at various pop-up locations we finally have a permanent location where young people can come and where we can do activities together. By now working together with the Youth Point and @Gemak, we can hopefully help young people even better.”
Youth point East on location
Young people can attend StreetsmArt activities two afternoons a week and the @Ease walk-in one afternoon a week. The Youth Point is especially present for young people who have dropped out of school and, for example, do not have a diploma.
Sultan Durmus, youth advisor at the Youth Point: “By going to this low-threshold location in the neighborhood, we hope that young people can approach us. There are many young people who see the service as a good use, but not the forest for the trees. We enter into discussions with these young people and offer guidance for all kinds of issues they encounter. In this way we help these young people build a bright future.”
