Most representatives start with classic winter skiing. “But I’m from the same city as our national team coach, who brought me to cross-country skiing. I enjoy it more, it’s adrenaline, “says Šárka Abrahamová, who also finished third overall in the World Cup, although she is still a junior.
What is the greatest adrenaline rush? Grass skiers do not race in the downhill, but still reach a speed of 100 km / h. But they can’t drive the plow or brake on the edges. “You can only stop by going uphill,” says Abraham. “Falls also hurt more than in winter, as they ride on hard ground,” he recalls. In addition to the helmet, he also carries a spine protector under his coveralls.
The hills are not as difficult to prepare as winter slopes, yet they have their own specifics. “Everyone is different, so the pressure on the skis and their settings must be reduced. It depends on how often they sprinkle the grass. It must be cut, without stones and without moles, “smiles Barták, who has a national race in Japan and, for example, in Iran.
“It was interesting there. It was brown all around and only the hill we rode on was irrigated and all green, ”adds Abraham.
